Your Eyes and Health
During your appointment, we check both your eye health and your vision.
Your Health History First we discuss your personal and family health history with you. This information provides a background for identifying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and allergies, which may affect your vision. Building your optical case history, we ask pertinent questions to determine your specific lifestyle needs. With this understanding, we are prepared to identify your unique vision problems and appropriate solutions including contact lenses, computer glasses, sports glasses, or other special needs eyewear. Your Vision To determine if you need glasses and the correct prescription for your lenses, we run a series of tests using a variety of refractive techniques. To be sure that your lenses provide maximum comfort and vision improvement, your test results are double-checked before they are prescribed. During your exam, we run special coordination tests to assure that your eyesare working well together. Lack of coordination can result in poor depth perception, double vision and eye fatigue. |
Your Eye Health
Our first concern in maintaining your eye health is early detection of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and systemic diseases. Using the latest technology and equipment, we examine the whole eye and visual system for any indication of abnormalities.Through regular eye exams we can detect damage from glaucoma at the earliest possible stage. To test for glaucoma we examine the optic nerve, measure the internal pressure of the eye, and use computerized visual field tests to measure peripheral vision. Early diagnosis of cataracts can also be an important factor in your eye health maintenance. Cataracts are indicated when the lens of the eye appears cloudy or opaque. If cataracts are diagnosed, we'll advise you of the next steps to take. Macular degeneration, diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy are also conditions that we are trying to detect at the earliest possible stage.
Your Eyes Reflect Your Health
If we detect systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and atherosclerosis (caused by high cholesterol), we will refer you to an appropriate health care professional to determine treatment.
